Old Patesians 2 (48 v 5) Westbury-on-Severn RFC

Westbury on Severn RFC were on the road today over to Cheltenham & Old Patesians RFC 2’s.

The game kicked off in the blazing October sunshine (a welcome break from the recent monsoons!)

The writing appeared to be on the wall in the first 5 mins the amassed crowd strapping in for a game at a furious pace ….

Old Pats took the first try after some great handling between the backs ….the sizeable crowd of travelling blue and white were silenced!

It was then the turn of the Referee to take centre stage, after getting in the way of a WoS drive - the WoS medic was duly despatched to administer first aid, deep heat spray & the obligatory field dressing ….normal service resumed ….& the wos defence tested to the max ….

Half time the score sat at 24-0 to Old Pats.

The second half was much the same as the first ….a battle royale in the middle of the park …. eventually Max Kaufmann (sponsored by The Lyon Inn) emerged from a ruck with the ball to score WOS’s first and only try under the Pats sticks - the kick was missed by the margin of a ‘nats chuff’ by fly half Paul Reddan (sponsored by the the Roberts Family).

The Westbury defence then went into over drive stopping wave upon wave with the resolve of the recipients of 100 visits from the bailiffs

The game ending 48- 5 …..

A tough day at the office playing a well drilled young Pats side - WOS taking plenty of learnings and positives onto next weeks home game v Drybrook Rugby Football Club 3’s

And a massive Congratulations Rob D (sponsored by KB enterprises) on his man of the match award - huge shift put in today fella lastly a Happy Birthday to the WOS fullback Jay Scott….Enjoy the (Hawaiian) curry social boys!
