Old Cryptians RFC II (37 v 19) Westbury-on-Severn RFC
On a fine day for rugby WoS RFC travelled to Old Cryptians RFC in this league encounter.
WoS were required to make several positional changes due to the unavailability of players.
Following a lengthy break WoS did not start strongly and conceded an unconverted try in the first five minutes.
However, their response was strong and immediate with some excellent forward work by Dylan Godwin (available for sponsor), Max Kaufmann (The Lyon Inn) and Justin Thackray (available to sponsor) marshalled by Ben Stephens (Matt Hart) at 9, resulted in Max Kaufmann (The Lyon Inn) placing the ball down between the post. An easy conversion for Jay Scott (Harry Phillips).
Despite this resurgence OC regained the upper hand and with some exceptional good play from their backs regained the lead.
Once again Westbury fought themselves back into the game and did not concede further points in the first half.
Strong defence, led by captain Rory Pritchard (Forge Motorsport), Justin Thackray (available for sponsor), Will Lord MH Bricklaying and Dylan Godwin (available to sponsor), often on our own try line, was impressive.
Tactical changes made at half time by Russ Williams and Harry Phillips, resulted in an impressive start to the second half.
Robbie Pritchard (Five Acres Fastfit Tyres and Exhausts), returned to the 12 position, restricted OC backs controlling the game as they did during large parts of the first half.
Despite the start OC regained control of the game and was pushing for a further score when an interception by Will Lord (MH Bricklaying) saw him make a line break from within his own 22 to OC 22 where he offloaded to Rory Pritchard (Forge Motorsport) who ran through unopposed to score in the corner.
WoS held the upper hand and should have scored again following an excellent line break by Paul Reddan (Roberts Family), who, similar to Will Lord (MH Bricklaying), ran almost the length of the pitch before a misplaced pass to the impressive Andrew Cueto (Lime Masonry) saw an end to the move.
Not to be out done Andrew Cueto (Line Masonry) chose a fantastic line and after collecting a short pass from JC (Minsterworth Butchers) was unstoppable as he touched down beneath the post. Conversion by Jay Scott (Harry Phillips).
WoS was now only a try and penalty away from regaining the lead and with only 10 minutes to go was in the ascendancy.
Pushing for the win WoS conceded two late tries which did not reflect the evenness of this game,
Congratulations to OC on the win and we look forward to hosting you for the return fixture at KB Memorial Stadium.
Final score: 37:19
