Dursley RFC II (17 v 27) Westbury-on-Severn RFC
Dursley RFC II vs Westbury-on-Severn RFC
WoS were on the road again—this time, away at Dursley. Before kick-off, the captains were called together, as Dursley could only field 12 players. In the spirit of the game, Rory Pritchard (sponsored by Forge Motorsport ) agreed to match numbers and play 12-a-side.
The match started fast, with WoS immediately on the front foot. Just like last week, they were straight on the scoreboard thanks to a try from Kyle Richards (available to sponsor).
Dursley 0 – 5 WoS
Westbury continued to apply pressure, though they initially struggled to convert it into points. That changed when a well-executed lineout provided clean ball to the backs, and Andrew Cueto (sponsored by Lime Masonry) powered over for the second try. Jay Scott (available to sponsor) slotted the conversion.
Dursley 0 – 12 WoS
For the first time in the match, Westbury were put under pressure. Strong defensive work from Daniel Morgan (sponsored by Hawthorn Pet & Animal Supplies Ltd.) and Will Lord (sponsored by MH Bricklaying Ltd) kept Dursley at bay. However, a charged-down kick by the Dursley scrum-half led to a try for the home side.
Dursley 7 – 12 WoS
That’s how the first half ended.
Despite the lead, Captain Rory Pritchard felt his side could offer more, and delivered a stern team talk at half-time. The second-half performance improved, but Dursley stepped up as well, putting together multiple phases in the WoS half. Eventually, the referee reached into his pocket, showing Andrew Cueto a yellow card.
Even down to 11 men, Westbury held strong—and even extended their lead. Max Kaufmann (sponsored by The Lyon Inn) dotted down for another try.
Dursley 7 – 17 WoS
The scoring continued with a try from the captain himself, Rory Pritchard (sponsored by Forge Motorsport).
Dursley 7 – 22 WoS
But Dursley weren’t done. A momentary lapse in WoS’s focus allowed the home side to break through for a try.
Dursley 12 – 22 WoS
Then came a moment that can only be described as a complete lapse in concentration. When a Westbury player, tracking back to deal with a Dursley kick, inexplicably booted the ball back toward his own try line—right into the path of a chasing Dursley player, who scooped it up and scored.
Dursley 17 – 22 WoS
Suddenly, the match was close. Very close.
But Westbury regrouped. With determination and teamwork, they pushed back down the field and sealed the win with a final try.
Final Score: Dursley 17 – 27 Westbury-on-Severn
