Westbury-on-Severn RFC (22 v 15) Bream 2
Although it was a cold day at the field of dreams, an initial 14 man squad took to the stage against grudge match rivals Bream RFC 2s. Players playing out of position poses no problem for the men in blue with sustained pressure in the first half allowing for Andrew Cueto (Lime Masonry Ltd) to show off his footballing prowess, grubbering the ball through to himself to pick up the opening try. Although Bream pulled back a try for themselves, the WoS warriors brought the boomfa back, with hits worthy of Top of the Pops from Lee Prince (Westbury on Severn RFC), Max Kaufmann (The Lyon Inn), and Andrew Cueto (Lime Masonry Ltd. More running rugby, with highlights from Rory Pritchard (Forge Motorsport), freed from the shackles of the front row, to run riot through the Bream defence, letting Andrew Cueto (Lime Masonry Ltd.) grab his second.
And the first half wasn't done. The boys, having absorbed some pressure, brought the back in the bream half, allowing Arron Hudson (IGNE), assisted by a hill, to score finishing the half at 17-5.
Although Westbury were bolstered by the arrival of another player, Bream came back with a bite in the second half, with Westbury having to hike up the historic hill to exit their half. Bream came through with some more tries, but that's not what you are here to hear about. Instead set piece dominance at lineout, with Will Lord (MH Bricklaying) causing havoc in the air, and at the scrum, with the front row ploughing the Bream pack up the hill. This pressure meant that Westbury were in the right part of the pitch to pull off some magic. The ball, flying through the hands of the backline and sending Adam Clarkson (Available to sponsor) over at the corner. Suddenly, it got tense, although Westbury were winning, pressure meant that it was a one score game. Tactical gameplay from Robbie Pritchard (Five Acres FastFit Tyres & Exhausts), meant that Bream had to run from their own 22 to score at the death. Although they had the ball, a last kick chance was snapped up by Jay Scott (Available to sponsor), finishing the game 22-15, winning the derby.
