Ledbury 2 (42 v 12) Westbury-on-Severn RFC
The boys were on the road today to top of the table Ledbury 2s side and were greeted with 1,000 cars and the whole town of Ledbury, a burglars dream. A tough start saw Westbury play into a strong headwind, with Ledbury's slick back line getting around the inexperienced forward-cum-centre partnership of Rory Pritchard (sponsored by Forge Motorsport) and Max Kaufmann (The Lyon Inn). Westbury smartened up towards the end of the first half, with continual carrying from Westbury forward pack moving the much larger Ledbury pack until the defence parted like the Red Sea and Moses (Rory Pritchard (sponsored by Forge Motorsport) in this case), sneaking through to dot down across the line. Try converted by Jay Scott (available to sponsor), bringing the touchline cheers to a halt. 21-7 at the half.
The second half say Westbury now playing with the wind, albeit a much weaker wind. Westbury's scrum, despite being a few fridges lighter, punished the Ledbury pack, allowing for some solid platforms for stand in scrum half Robbie Pritchard (sponsored by Five Acres FastFit Tyres & Exhausts) and Paul Reddan (sponsored by the Roberts Family) to pull the strings more and allows several darts into the Ledbury half. This culminated in a glorious try of the season contender by the quick footed Andrew Cueto (sponsored by Lime Masonry Ltd), much to the enjoyment of the travelling Westbury spectator contingent. Ledbury quickly swapped half their team for a much larger bomb squad and managed to put some more tries, but non were nearly as of a high quality finish as ours. Some special mentions, particularly go to the front row comprised of Digger (available to sponsor), Matt Hart (sponsored by NIF Cricket), and Arron Hudson (sponsored by IGNE), who really turned the screws in the scrum, dominating a much, MUCH, larger pack. Additionally from the forwards, Will Lord (sponsored by MH Bricklaying) put in a work horse performance, a la a blonder Lee Prince (sponsored by Westbury on Severn RFC), deservedly winning Forward of the Match. Our Back of the Match goes to Paul Reddan (sponsored by the Roberts Family) for not only his attack, but also holding up not one, but two try attempts from Ledbury. Final score, 42-12. Our next game is on the road again, this time to Cheltenham North 2s, where the boys will undoubtably bounce back, namely by not having two forwards in the centres. See you there.
