FOD Combination Cup Match Report

Under the spring sun, WoSRFC took on Cinderford IIIs in an attempt to defend their cup. Coming out hot, WoSRFC led the scoreboard early through a brac from Max Kaufmann (Lyon Inn) who showed masterful carrying to break through the Cinderford defence, firstly with a well drilled lineout move from Dylan Godwin (Ken Boulton) crashing over the line, and then from wide play, delivered by Robbie Pritchard (FastFit Tyres). A conversion was added by Jay Scott (Harry Phillips) leading to an early start by WoSRFC to lead by 12-0. Defensive pressure came next with Cinderford bouncing back, camping within the WoSRFC half, but a strong defensive display from Lee Prince (available to sponsor), Will Lord (MH Bricklaying), and Rory Pritchard (Forge Motorsport) repelled the attackers. Tactical kicking undertaken by Paul Reddan (Roberts Family) and Jay Scott (Harry Phillips) eased off the pressure initially, however Cinderford crashed over for a try. WoSRFC were immediately back, carrying and breaking the gainline through carries from Andrew Cueto (Lime Masonry), Max Kaufmann (Lyon Inn) and Shay Lewis (available to sponsor), allowing for Robbie Pritchard (FastFit Tyres) to skip under the posts with Jay Scott (Harry Phillips) adding the extras. A final defensive effort on the goaline repelled Cinderford bringing the half to an end 19-5.

Second half started shakily with Cinderford putting immediate pressure and a horde of fresh legs on, running in a couple of tries early on. WoSRFC got back in the game, hitting back hard and pushing upfield before Max Kaufmann (Lyon Inn) carried over for his third, Jay Scott (Harry Phillips) adding the extras. Unfortunately the WoSRFC team were unable to combat the rolling subs from Cinderford, meaning the final score ended 24-43, prematurely ending the cup run. MOTM went to Dylan Godwin (Ken Boulton) for his excellence around the park, and Robbie Pritchard (FastFit Tyres) for resurrecting after leaving the pitch injured.
