FOD Combination Cup Match Report
Westbury took on Drybrook Extra XV in the final of the FOD combination cup.
The 500 plus crowd were treated to a proper good old Forest scuffle, with more cards than the average Uno match (3 red cards and 7 yellows) !!
Drybrook came out lightning fast, scoring quick, with a wide and flat ball from Drybrook 10 hitting the wing, putting them across in the corner. WoS came back strongly, battering the Dry line, with dominant carrying from Lee Prince (Westbury on Severn RFC), Max Kaufmann (The Lyon Inn), and Harry Janneh (D&A Morgan) pushing them close to the line. Finally Max Kaufmann crashed over, with Jay Scott (Available to Sponsor) adding the extras to bring WoS back on top. Then there was a bit of a kerfuffle, in which cards were shown to numerous players, some of which were clearly just wanting to catch their breath. In all this confusion Drybrook slotted a penalty bringing the scores close at the half.
Westbury 7 - Drybrook 8
The second started with the same intensity with both sides giving everything. Some excellent play from the backline of Robbie Pritchard (Five Acres FastFit Tyres & Exhausts), Paul Reddan (Roberts family), and Harry Janneh (D&A Morgan), saw the intensity ratchet up another level. Pressure at set piece, mainly due to the front row of Digger (Available to Sponsor), Rory Pritchard (Forge Motorsport), Matt Hart (NIF Cricket), and Arron Hudson (IGNE), turned the tide, bringing a chance for Harry Janneh (D&A Motorsport) to finish off in the corner. There was another break for "disagreements" between the two teams, heavily costing WoS, allowing for Drybrook to score, gifting them the lead. WoS 12 - Drybrook 13.
But we weren't done there. West stormed back, with the clock ticking away and camped in Drybrook's half, Dry conceded three penalties in a row all within kicking distance, the home side declined all and doggedly pressed on, with seconds left on the clock West worked the ball wide for Harry Janneh (D&A Morgan) to score the winning try, which was converted by Jay Scott (Available to Sponsor), with the clock in the red as the final whistle went the Ken Boulton stadium of light erupted with delight and Westbury had won their first trophy in 32 years.
